Despite the odds being against him, Joey goes the distance. Every attack Joey suffers deals real damage to his body and mind. On top of that, he’s under immense pressure from the Shadow Game. If he loses against Marik and his Egyptian God Card, Joey’s soul will be trapped in the Shadow Realm. In this duel he’s up against enormous odds. In his showdown with Yami Marik ( Jonathan Todd Ross), Joey proves once again that he can go toe-to-toe with the best duelists around. Still though, he is consistently underestimated and is always looking to prove himself as more than just lucky. He starts off as an amateur who relies on Yugi for help, but over time he builds a formidable deck and becomes one of the best duelists in the world. Throughout the show, Joey ( Wayne Grayson) gets a lot of disrespect and is viewed by his opponents as more of an annoying pest than a real threat.
